When one gets the itch to transform for the front row—and you’re one of the most watched faces (and bodies) around—there’s no room for error. Hence, the reason Kim Kardashian West turned to none other than Hollywood’s blond whisperer, Lorri Goddard, to work her magic in just one night. After forgoing her long, sleek strands for a shorter, textured lob at the hands of L.A.-based stylist Gregory Russell, the celeb decided to take things to the next level for her Fall ’15 debut in the City of Light. Goddard, who counts Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Lawrence among her clientele, said of Kardashian West’s metamorphosis from near-black to glacial blond: “Paris fashion week is a time for adventure and chic shades to be shown.” (It appears that Jared Leto also received the memo.) “It is extremely difficult to take dark hair to platinum, as it shifts the condition of the hair,” Goddard added, reiterating that she kept the health of the reality star’s locks a top priority. (Even Kardashian West acknowledged via Instagram that achieving “this color in one try” is “not an easy task.”) After starting with a strand test to see if Kim’s hair was strong enough for the “platinum journey,” Goddard began at the ends—avoiding the scalp, which emits heat and speeds up the process. During what Goddard called “a magical evening” together, over quite a few hours, Kardashian West left her now-signature look behind for a far more formidable ’do—all the more striking and strategically photograph-worthy.
