Zara Martin, a TV presenter, model (signed with Storm Models London), and an in-demand DJ, is a triple threat. With her hectic schedule and globetrotting lifestyle, it’s a wonder that she finds the time to take care of her long, glossy chocolate locks (yes, they’re real—I pulled them myself) and her envy-inducing complexion. As a DJ, Martin has been requested by the top fashion houses for her sets, including Chanel, Versace, and Fendi. She has also designed a sell-out pair of Skinnydip London headphones exclusively with Topshop.
When I met her over a cup of tea (very English, indeed), I discovered that she has that “cool girl in the gang,” rock-chick vibe, complete with the wrist tattoos, blunt bangs, and eyeliner-traced doe eyes. As she talked openly about her love of beauty, perfume, and yoga time with bestie Millie Mackintosh, it was apparent that underneath it all, she’s a true girl’s girl.
Elizabeth Whiston-Dew: What beauty item could you not live without?
Zara Martin: I love perfume. I’m obsessed, actually. Chanel No5, Chanel No22, and Maison Fifi Chachnil—I discovered the latter, Fifi, when I got stuck in a thunderstorm in Paris. I ran into this little boudoir-style lingerie shop and there I found Fifi perfume. I loved it so much that I bought it in bulk on the spot.
Are you happier blonde or brunette?
I’ve actually been a redhead, a blonde with black roots, and then decided to go back to my natural brunette. I’m happiest with dark hair—in fact, I’m not going to change my hair for a while, unless I get a hair campaign.
Who do you trust to look after your long locks?
I go to Hershesons hair salon in London and see Larry King, my stylist. If I’m getting ready for an event, they seem to get that I don’t want my hair to look too “done.” My favorite all-time red carpet look was for the GQ Awards.
