Following yet another groundbreaking fashion season, we reveal the striking makeup moments that stole the shows across the world’s fashion capitals. Makeup artists defied rules by loading models’ faces with glitter, employing new takes on conventional blush, and coating lids with bold flashes of color.

GLITTER GALORE
Consider 2016 (and 2017) the year of glitter. After Pat Mcgrath sent models down the Atelier Versace runway with bedazzled lips, the pretty particles started popping up everywhere. At Fendi, models’ lips were slicked with a swivel of rose gold lipstick and sprinkled with a dusting of light-catching flecks. Meanwhile, models at Maison Margiela and DKNY showcased silver and deep oxblood renditions also dreamed up by McGrath. Photo: Kevin Tachman

BOLD BROWS
Backstage at Gucci, models’ eyebrows were filled in using a soft, lavender pigment that looked striking against a backdrop of alabaster skin and bleached, blond hair. At Maison Margiela, Pat McGrath dipped brushes into pots of bright yellow paint to trace the models’ arches. Photo: Kevin Tachman

CHERRY LIPS
According to the runways, crisp red lips are set for a major beauty takeover in the coming months. At Jason Wu, models couldn’t resist reaching for a tube of poppy red lipstick; while Kenzo models sported ruby pouts that matched their crimson blush. In Milan, Dolce & Gabbana’s models took to the tropical-themed runway toting crisp, scarlet lips that served to emphasize their neatly drawn cat-eyes. Photo: Sonny Vandevelde / Indigital.tv

BRING ON THE BLUSH
Draping—an old makeup technique that involves sculpting the features with blush—made its resurgence on runways this season. At Chanel and Kenzo, washes of brilliant red were swiped across cheekbones and up to the brows in true ‘80s fashion. Statement blush also appeared at the Hussein Chalayan and Fenty x Puma shows.
