“Once again, the focus is all on the eyes. We drew inspiration for this blue/green eye from a Rothko painting.”
—Makeup artist Tom Pecheux
The quintessential Elie Saab woman is polished and has a certain penchant for being in the spotlight. Continuing his love affair with the green color palette, makeup artist Tom Pecheux explains that “we took reference from the collection and there were two bold color options, burgundy or green, and although I love burgundy, a beautiful green is more flattering on the eyes.”
The eyeshadow was a mix of two colors from the M.A.C Fall 2014 Palette, Tortoise and Storm Cloud, with a little of the M.A.C Eye Shadow in Stony dusted over the top. Interestingly, the soft wash of color was applied to “respect each girl’s eye shape,” moving away from the idea of identikit faces taking to the runway. The eyes were finished with copious amounts of black mascara, layered onto the lashes until they were almost spidery.
With the skin remaining soft and “a little on the cool side,” pale lips and cheeks ensured the eyes remained in focus. With a deep emerald polish, M.A.C Nail Lacquer in Deep Sea was applied to the nails, giving testament to the notion that matchy-matchy makeup is back on the beauty radar.
“This is beautiful quality hair with an equestrian feel,” exclaimed hairstylist Luigi Murenu about the poker straight and shiny lengths he created for the show. It is straight hair with blunt ends, with extensions added for fullness (“much like a horse’s mane,” Murenu comments). Instead of straightening the hair in a downwards motion, Murenu tells me that while straightening the hair, pulling it towards your chest will give the hair added movement, “a whispy feel.” Moreover, thanks to the Kérastase Gloss Appeal run over the straightened lengths as a final step, “the hair is so shiny it looks like polished wood.”
