Natividad Abascal y Romero-Toro, known as Naty Abascal, is one of fashion’s higher echelon figures. The Spanish socialite and former model (who has been in the public eye since the ‘60s), is known for her sophisticated and refined aesthetic, and is a familiar face on international best-dressed lists. Abascal has captured the attention of fashion designers such as Carolina Herrera and Donatella Versace; as well as late artists Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali; and has served as a muse to both Valentino Garavani and the late Oscar de la Renta. Now, Abascal has collaborated with Aquazzura designer Edgardo Osorio to create the Naty Abascal X Aquazzura capsule.
“I first met Naty at Vogue Talents, organized by Franca Sozzani in Milan,” recalled the Colombian shoe designer in conversation with Style.com/Arabia. Revealing how the collaboration came to be, Osorio recalled, “Everything happened in Naty’s apartment in Madrid. We went through her gigantic closet and her memories. She has unbelievable couture pieces, costume jewelry, and fine jewelry that are all so inspirational,” he added.
The collection features six sexy silhouettes including ankle boots adorned with evil eye charms, lace-up suede flats traced with coin pendants, and strappy sandals that feature a bead-embroidered Hand of Fatima motif. “I wanted to go back to Naty’s past and her story,” Osorio explained. “She was born in Seville, and there’s a gypsy aesthetic to the collection. I wanted this to be the soul of the capsule—but with a very couture aspect,” he emphasized.
