HM Queen Rania’s Best Quotes from the World Economic Forum

HM Queen Rania accompanied her husband, His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, and her son Crown Prince Hussein to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. During the global conference, the royal sat down with Richard Quest from CNN to discuss the “fractured world” and the #MeToo movement. Read on for Her Majesty’s best quotes from the interview.

On the “fractured world”:
“When it comes to politics, our world is fractured. But when it comes to everything else, our world has never been more interconnected. Our conflicts are now borderless and they’re mobile. As a result, there’s a lot of fear. It’s a rational reaction but fear invokes irrational thoughts and behaviors, so it affects your decisions.”

On who is to blame for the fractures:
“Fear can be a very dangerous thing and when you have politicians that feed into that fear, it can be very divisive in societies and really undermine social cohesion and harmony, and that’s something that we need to look out for. It’s a short-term agenda that gives results very quickly, but over the long-term it’s very destructive and counterproductive for any society.”

On the #MeToo movement:
“I’m hoping we can look at 2017 as the turning point, as a year we’ve given a new voice to an age-old issue.”

On what’s next for #MeToo:

“We’ve got a lot of work to do. It’s not enough to just talk about these things. We need to move from breaking the silence to generating actual, tangible actions.”
