No stranger to composing poetic couture threads, Chiuri worked with Pierpaolo Piccioli as a formidable design duo for the house of Valentino, seeing sales quadruple during their joint reign. Chiuri’s input was instrumental in reinventing the brand’s red carpet DNA to great effect, as seen on the likes of Kirsten Dunst, Lorde, and Keira Knightley. A millennial market following boosted the brand’s cool factor. Now, taking her debut as a solo designer, the industry will collectively hold its breath before the first official look hits the runway.

With six collections to manage annually for Dior, Chiuri’s creativity will be set alight on many avenues, most notably as the first female creative lead in the fashion house’s 70-year history. “It can’t only be about [Monsieur Dior]!” she exclaims. “In some ways, I see myself as a curator of the house,” the designer told US Vogue in an interview backstage at her Spring 2017 Christian Dior ready-to-wear debut.
