Regional Designers Take Mommy-and-Me Dressing to Stylish New Heights

Looking to take the charm factor up a notch? Level Kids has teamed with four regional designers on an exclusive mommy-and-me collection. Coinciding with the one-year anniversary, designers Madiyah Al Sharqi, Arwa Al Banawi, Dima Ayad, and Endemage have rolled out miniature versions of their Spring 2017 collections. Speaking to Vogue Arabia about the partnership, Level Kids general manager Miral Youssef says: “Being a homegrown concept with a strong belief in supporting local talent, it delights us to have the opportunity to partner with these remarkable UAE-based designers. They have definitely added a spark to our month-long birthday celebrations.”

If you fancy Arwa Al Banawai’s bold blazers, now mini-me versions can be scooped up too – think coordinating quirky ice cream-printed and geometric-patterned short suits for you and your little one. “I make clothes for my nephew and have learned a lot from the process, so I’ve kept in mind that kids should be playful and comfortable while wearing them,” Al Banawai says, about creating her first children’s design. In the spirit of twinning style, the Omani sisters behind Endemage, Lubna and Nadia Al Zakwani, imagined an embellished dress with ruffled sleeves. “We’re so excited to see little girls in our mini gowns,” the sisters say.

“Mommy-and-me style has recently come of age again and mothers are looking for fashion-forward options,” says Madiyah Al Sharqi. Indeed, celebrities often make their look a family affair. Beyoncé often dresses Blue Ivy in Gucci outfits that mimic their adult counterparts, while Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise step out in harmonizing combinations.

The collaboration has also sparked inspiration for Lebanese designer Dima Ayad. “Seeing it come to life has definitely inspired a mini collection in the future,” says Ayad. Mimicking her eponymous label’s core contemporary ethos, expect to find rose metallic frocks fit for tots. In the gallery above, see the collections that are made for a stylish mommy-and-me pair.
