Behind the Scenes at La Perla Fall 2017

La Perla unveiled its first ever ready-to-wear collection at New York Fashion Week for Fall 2017 to a star-studded front row––from Gwyneth Paltrow to Miroslava Duma––with an equally A-list model lineup, including Naomi Campbell, Joan Smalls, Kendall Jenner (campaign heroine for the brand), and Vogue cover girl Imaan Hammam. For its first fashion week foray beyond lingerie and intimate separates, the brand showcased its winter hero pieces––the corset jacket and Ada bag––in a celebration of femininity.

This is the second season lead by Julia Hart, the maison’s creative director, who took inspiration from British garden motifs (notably hand-embroidered onto slick tailoring), pre-Raphaelite painter Alma-Tadema, and American artist Georgia O’Keeffe, transitioning the references into a highly wearable, sartorially empowering collection.

Of course, La Perla didn’t stray too far from its roots; in-built lingerie gave key pieces another dimension. Hart first explored this last season with the corset jacket, and has expanded the concept in shirting, sweaters, and even tank tops. Clever? Yes. Practical? Very.
