Off-the-shoulder cuts, Chantilly lace, princess gowns, and A-line dresses are the quintessential classic features that appeal to brides from East and West. But for Bridal Spring 2018, designers dared to experiment by incorporating traditional sartorial aspects with a modern twist. Floral designs were revamped and elevated with 3D flowers blooming, as seen at Viktor & Rolf and Oscar de la Renta. Extravagant bows were showcased at Marchesa and Carolina Herrera, and black details made statements in Vera Wang’s and Reem Acra’s collections.
While silhouettes varied, an emphasis on layers and ruffles was evident throughout, as displayed on Viktor & Rolf’s voluminous gown and Monique Lhuillier’s horsehair skirt. Offering different hues such as ivory and blush, as opposed to a conventional white dress, was also a popular trend among designers such as Elie Saab, Christian Siriano, and Lela Rose.
