Vogue Arabia’s Style Spy at the Art Dubai Fair

After the Gianvito Rossi anniversary dinner on Tuesday evening, the soon-to-launch Fashion Forward festivities, and with Art Dubai 2017 in full swing, the cultural heartbeat of Dubai is resonating across the region. Running from March 15-18 and held under the patronage of his highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Art Dubai fair breaks through its decade-long anniversary and into its 11th year with a newly appointed director, Myrna Ayad; a freshly launched site; and a new Modern Symposium.

The Symposium includes renowned curators, patrons, and scholars delivering talks laser-focused on the work culture surrounding 20th-century artists from the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa. On March 17, Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, Dr Nada Shabout, Karim Sultan, and Kristine Khouri take to the stage to form a panel discussing Preserving Modernism, exploring how regional talent can be supported and elevated with emerging and established media platforms. The 2017 fair features works from more than 90 galleries cherry-picked from 44 countries, capturing a multigenerational scope of breakout and established talents using different mediums, from video to performance, sculpture, and painting. The exhibits are split between solo or two-artist presentations and curation has been refocused with multi-artist shows.

Today marks the Ladies’ Day Preview with a VIP opening to follow this evening. The fair draws to an end on Saturday March 18 at 6.30 UAE time. Vogue Arabia’s style spy reports from inside the Art Dubai Fair 2017 to capture the best-dressed guests. See the pictures above.
