If you’re seeking an unfussy hair solution or a camera-ready coif, the humble chignon is the ultimate go-to. Need inspiration? Look no further than the Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear shows. Whether hair was secured into a low knot at the nape of the neck or twisted neatly at the top of the head, the runways took the knot to beautifully elevated levels.

Those who have time to spare can take a beauty cue from Dior and opt for a braided chignon. To create this “tomboyish yet feminine” look, as backstage hairstylist Guido Palau describes it, hair was woven into tiny braids that ran up the back of models’ heads into topknots.

If you’re pressed for time, take a look at Givenchy’s saturated buns for inspiration and give your blow-dryer a well-deserved rest. These sopping wet strands were also dreamed up by Guido Palau, who raked models still-damp hair back into a low ponytail at the base of the neck before wrapping it into a polished, high-impact bun.

Do you have a garden soirée to attend? Recreate the eye-catching ballerina buns at Ryan Roche to make a head-turning entrance. Inspired by Palomino horses, the dreamy chignons were crafted by backstage hairstylist James Pecis. To mimic the look, all that is required is a ribbon and elastic band. Once you secure your lengths into a center-parted low pony, begin to weave your ribbon in between the sections, wrapping the hair into a tight coil at the nape of the neck.

For a look that can seamlessly transition from intense SoulCycle session to party-ready, look no further than Aquilano Rimondi, where the gym bun got a chic runway-approved update. Backstage, hairstylists raked hair back and twisted it into a neat skater bun, leaving a few wisps loose for an unfussy yet elegant finish. Amp up the look by trading lip balm for a swivel of crimson lipstick and a soft dusting of bronzer.

See how to get Spring 2017’s reigning hair trend here.
