Go bold, or go home – that’s the beauty message for Spring 2017. While the Fall 2016 runways championed high-impact eyeliner (Versace’s winter woman had heavy-kohl eyes, and Nicole Miller’s fall look went moody with smudgy black liner), the runway hit refresh for 2017 with bright pops of color worn in chunky stripes or smouldering blends across the upper lids.

Make-up artist Thomas de Kluyver layered gloss over the model’s eyes at Salvatore Ferragamo for its Spring ’17 collection, using MAC Paint Stick in Basic Red or Genuine Orange. Val Garland opted for aquamarine paint in thick, unapologetic blocks across the top of the eye socket at Ports 1961. While millennial models Bella Hadid and Nora Attal had exaggerated smoky eyeshadow worked across their eyes into a point, in a rich sea green hue.

After witnessing a winter of black smoked-out eyes on this season’s runway at Saint Laurent, Elie Saab, Alberta Feretti, Sacai (we could go on and on), and deep plum lipsticks at Marc Jacobs, and Dries Van Noten, the beauty pendulum has swung to pop art colors, and pared back skin make-up. Put down the bronzers– and the lip gloss –this year is is about big chunks of color on your eyes.

Scroll down to see how the trend in action on the Spring 2017 runways:

Ports 1961 Spring 2017. Indigital

Val Garland’s exaggerated blue stripe across the eyes made the Ports 1961 Spring 2017 collection futureproof. Painted across the lids in a Cleopatra-like shape, this is not a look for the faint hearted. Clear lip gloss and subtle bronzer provide the perfect finish.

Sportsmax Spring 2017. Indigital

Taylor Hill takes to the Sportsmax runway with slicked-back wavy hair, no-makeup skin makeup, and a shock of yellow gloss in the socket of her eye. Lashings of jet black mascara prevent the washed-out appearance from taking over.

Bella Hadid makes an impact on the runway sporting matte foundation, a touch of bronzer underneath her cheekbones, no lip color and a sweep of sea-green eyeshadow worked into a cat’s-eye shape.
