When it came to hair and makeup at last night’s Met Gala, the themes on the red carpet flirted with two extremes: understated glamour and exaggerated avant-garde. Take Lily Collins, who stepped out with a brand-new jet-black bob, brow-grazing eyelashes and an onyx pout that looked striking against her alabaster complexion. Katy Perry’s vermillion lips and royal blue-painted lids stood out behind her sheer Maison Margiela veil, and Rihanna practically shut down the red carpet in a Fall 2016 Comme des Garçons look, paired with high-octane swirls of blush draped 80s style from the apples of her cheeks to her lids.
Considering the theme was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, it’s no surprise that a blunt bob was a red carpet hit among the A-listers, which included Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian West, and Bella Hadid. While Gomez heightened her thick, brunette chop with painterly pink eyeshadow that extended to her brows, Kardashian West and Hadid opted for a soft, sultry makeup palette that also found favor with Zoë Kravitz and Lily-Rose Depp.
