As far as fashion’s collective imagination goes, few single destinations have captured it so fully as the south of France, a spot that marries European glamour with tropical exoticism (palm trees!). When the Rolling Stones sought financial exile, they headed to the infamous Villa Nellcôte on the Côte d’Azur; when the fashion and film sets seek exile from L.A.’s many quotidian red carpets, they head to Cannes each May.
