Youssef Nabil’s Belly Dancer Feted at the Opening Night in Dubai

On Thursday evening The Third Line gallery welcomed Dubai’s finest for the Middle East premiere of New York-based Egyptian artist Youssef Nabil’s short film and exhibition I Saved My Belly Dancer. The film stars actress Salma Hayek as a belly dancer who approaches a man sleeping played by actor Tahar Rahim and dances her last dance for him before he takes her away to the American desert. The narrative illustrates the 1950s’ golden age of Egyptian cinema and Nabil’s relationship with his native country. Following the premiere, guests including Art Dubai Fair Director, Antonia Carver; The Third Line founder Sunny Rahbar; Ruth Bradley Consulting founder, Ruth Bradley; Canvas and Sorbet magazines’ Ali Khadra; Traffic founder Rami Farook; Mohammed Sultan Al Habtoor; and artist Patricia Millns mingled while viewing Nabil’s hand-colored photographs of Hayek and Rahim that resembled mid-twentieth century Egyptian movie posters, which were on display throughout the spacious gallery.
