Luxury French menswear label Berluti has appointed Haider Ackermann as its new creative director, effective immediately. Ackermann, who enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp from 1994 until 1997, founded his eponymous ready-to-wear womenswear label in 2003. He presented his first menswear collection in Paris ten years later. The Colombian designer will debut his first collection as the newly minted creative director for Berluti during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in January of next year.

Over the years, Haider Ackermann, 45, was oft-rumored to take the helm of a number of renowned brands (including Maison Margiela and Dior). Now at Berluti, he succeeds Alessandro Sartori, who abruptly departed from his position as artistic director of the French House in February this year. “Everyone was expecting me to do womenswear so I wanted to do something else,” Ackermann admitted in an interview with the NY Times. “I have another story to tell,” he revealed.
