Ayah Al Bitar Designs This Innovative Furniture for all Your Prayer Needs

Prayer is one of the five pillars of Islam to be carried out five times a day. The act of praying is met with a lengthy preparation process, and sees Muslims taking time to remove and store personal items ahead of the sacred ritual. Launching today, Saudi furniture and product designer Ayah Al Bitar’s latest offering is a creative solution for men and women looking to store belongings in an organized manner before prayer. The designer—who studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York—launched her company in 2014, and today unveils “The Sanctuary.”

A three-piece, steel structure (that can be customized in 21-karat rose or yellow gold), the portable storage unit is accented with solid walnut wood and features asymmetric bars that serve as garment holders. The innovative product also allows men who dress in traditional garb to drape their ghutras over the beam to prevent them from becoming creased. The Sanctuary is designed with a rectangular shelf that sits above the shorter bar to hold personal items including keys, cell phones, and jewelry. Meanwhile, shoes can be tucked away inside the structure’s wooden storage box until prayer is over. Rather than rolling or folding the prayer mat, one can store the rug inside the leather pocket in between prayers.
