I have always had a love-hate relationship with hair extensions. While I love their ability to magically transform my wimpy, fine tresses into a luscious, waist-skimming mane, I can’t quite bear how damaging, time consuming, and high maintenance faux hair can be. This is why I was pleased to discover micro ring hair extensions, and even more so to discover that the service is now available in the Middle East courtesy of Sisters Beauty Lounge.

Micro ring hair extensions (also known as micro weft hair extensions) are fairly new, but have quickly gained popularity—and are a favorite among celebrities—due to their discrete approach to amp up a mane’s volume and length. They are ideal for those who don’t want their extensions applied with glue, heat, or other chemicals that may irritate the scalp and they actually serve to promote the health and growth of the natural hair.

The application process takes no more than an hour, and adds instant volume, length, and even color without the noticeability factor of clip-ins. To apply, a section of your own hair along with a strand of extension hair is looped through a plastic ring. The ring is pulled up to the scalp, and secured in place using a set of pliers.

The bespoke method creates natural length and volume to the hair—each weft of hair is cut according to the measurements of the client. Unlike clip-ons or weaving, micro ring extensions look great on short or fine hair. Those who are feeling creative can add streaks of color to their mane, or single extensions for highlights.

The extensions last up to ten weeks before you need to retighten them to the scalp. The hair can be reused for up to six months if proper care is taken.

Sisters Beauty Lounge is at The Dubai Mall, The Village Mall, Mirdiff City Centre, and Mall of the Emirates, Dubai. A full set costs AED 2800.
