“It’s very important for me to break the stereotypes of what people in the industry think beauty is” says renowned fashion photographer (and Polish prince) Alexi Lubomirski , speaking on his new book Diverse Beauty. The hardcover is a visual compilation of women of every color, age and size, which aims to celebrate inclusion and individuality as well as challenge existing beauty standards in fashion. Featuring 192 pages of raw, uncut portraits of beautiful women from a range of ethnicities and cultures—including cover girl and muse Lupita Nyong’o, Tunisian model Hanaa Ben Abdesslem and 64-year-old Isabella Rossellini. It also features Dubai-based influencer Saufeeya Goodson, whose hugely successful Instagram feed (co-owner of @hijabfashion, 2.6m followers) piqued Lubomirski’s interest. Following the book’s release, Goodson flew to New York City to attend Lubomirski’s 9-day long photo exhibition at Milk Gallery in the Meatpacking District. Ahead, Lubomirski explains the inspiration behind his book and how he aims to rewrite beauty.
